What’s changed since we approved it?

Does the approval still fit the work?

A decision can be right when it’s made and still need revisiting six months later.

A supplier approved for one market starts serving three. An internal tool gains access to customer data. A pilot becomes part of the daily workflow. Each change might make sense, but are we still doing what we originally approved?

This week, MAS issued AI risk management guidelines for financial institutions, including reviewing controls as use expands and technology evolves. They take effect from October 2027. What interests me is the everyday question behind that: does the approval still fit the work? Source

I’d rather agree upfront what would make us revisit a decision than leave people guessing later. A new purpose, more access, a different customer group. Even something going well enough to grow much faster than we’d expected.

That doesn’t mean starting the whole approval process again. Sometimes a conversation and an updated record will do. Sometimes we’ll need more testing, different terms or someone else involved in the decision.

It’s worth picking one important approval in your business and asking: what did we agree, what’s changed, and who’s keeping an eye on it?

We might make exactly the same decision today. But I’d want to know we’ve considered it.
